The Diplomat Seeks Writer for Southeast Asia/ASEAN Affairs

The Diplomat, the premier international current-affairs magazine for the Asia-Pacific, seeks a regular, paid writer to cover Southeast Asia/ASEAN affairs for its ASEAN Beat section.

The writer will be responsible for writing one short article a week for The Diplomat, around 600-800 words in length, on developments in individual Southeast Asian countries as well as the region as a whole, including the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Candidates who are based in the region are strongly preferred.

Desired qualities:

  • Previous experience either writing for online or print publications on Southeast Asia and/or Asian affairs or covering the region
  • Extensive, demonstrable knowledge of Southeast Asia
  • A strong command of the English language (Southeast Asian languages a plus).

To apply, please send a resume and a 500-1,000 word writing sample on Southeast Asia, preferably an already published work, to The Diplomat’s Associate Editor Prashanth Parameswaran at prashanth (at) thediplomat.com. Applications should be submitted by Friday, December 23. The position is for an immediate start.
