This week I mentioned the (supposed) Singapore vs. Hong Kong art war, with the two metropolises said to be vying for top city status through the development of world-class arts and culture scenes.
Well, judging from a wine industry update I received in my inbox this afternoon, my money is back on Hong Kong.
The message took me to a recent CNN article, ‘Hong Kong: Welcome to wine country?,’ about 8th Estate Winery in Hong Kong, and I was intrigued to read more about this operation, located on the ‘third floor of an industrial building in southern Hong Kong.’ 340 oak wine barrels in such a setting is nothing to scoff at, and The Wall Street Journal or The New York Times certainly didn’t in their coverage of 8th Estate last month.
The winery is also getting some ‘local’ support–its first selection of vintages has been added to the two-star Michelin rated Shang Palace cellar at the Kowloon Shangri-La.
