Indian Cinema Series
We’ve found Priyanka Chopra’s Twitter account – and the ‘Diplomat_APAC‘ is now one of her 80,000-plus followers. Indeed, the Indian actress, who is No. 2 on our Top 5 Indian Actresses countdown, has piqued my interest enough to have my fingers crossed that she might, in return, start following us.
Before becoming an actress, 27-year-old Chopra worked as a model until rising to fame with her Miss World win in 2000. Her acting debut in 2002’s Thamizhan soon followed, and her film career has continued to flourish. In her youth, Chopra lived and studied for a while in the US. Her parents are doctors, but with her father serving in the army they moved around quite frequently.Enjoying this article? Click here to subscribe for full access. Just $5 a month.
In a recent interview, the actress revealed that Michael Jackson always fascinated her and she says it was his music that initiated her to English music. She said of the pop star’s recent death: ‘What upset me most was he went the way he did. I wish his comeback tour had happened. I wish people would remember him for his goodness.’
Chopra, who won a Nielsen Box Office Award for outstanding contribution to Asian cinema this spring, also won an unusual award back in 2004–Filmfare Best Villain for her performance as a malicious seductress in Aitraaz.
Away from work, Chopra continues to take on various pro-bono responsibilities. She has recently worked on a documentary with an Indian NPO to raise awareness about leprosy, and has in the past been part of campaigns for environmental awareness and other social issues.
Chopra says her biggest regret in life is having not finished college.
