The position will entail working remotely for much of the time and so an enthusiastic self-starter is essential. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in international affairs, particularly the Asia-Pacific, and will have demonstrable experience working in an online environment. Applicants should be strongly familiar with social networking and outreach. We’re not just talking about being able to update Facebook and Twitter – candidates should understand how to use a range of media to build an audience and further develop the reputation of a quality news publication.
In addition to outreach, the assistant editor will be responsible for supporting the editor with day-to-day editing duties, research and sourcing new material for the magazine. There will be writing opportunities for the right candidate, but we are looking for more than just enthusiastic, budding journalists – we need someone who knows how to find new readers as well as take responsibility for enhancing the content of our blogs and generate ideas for features.
This is a varied and challenging role, but has enormous potential for someone able to take initiative and help us build on our success since re-launching as an online publication two years ago.
Candidates should be available for an in-person in Washington DC on October 6th or 7th. For more information, please contact the editor, Jason Miks, at: [email protected]
