The first votes have already been counted in the Republican primary in New Hampshire – and it’s a tie between former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Of course this is after only nine votes have been cast and counted – in the small village of Dixville Notch.
Interestingly, though, the Republican winner in Dixville Notch has since 1968 gone on to win the Republican nomination. A good omen for Huntsman, the former ambassador to China who has effectively staked the future of his campaign on a strong showing in New Hampshire?
The voting was as follows:
Gingrich 1
Huntsman 2
Ron Paul 1
Mitt Romney 2
(Democrats were also voting, with 3 plumping for Barack Obama)
