The Kyrgyz media outlet, known for its reporting on corruption, is under pressure once again for publishing materials “aimed at sharply criticizing the policies of the current government.”

Kyrgyzstan, a Central Asian country that once wanted to do away with its armed forces, has taken significant steps to rearm itself since the deadly 2021 clashes with neighboring Tajikistan. 

For the second time in just over a year, Kyrgyzstan’s prosecutor general has sought to strip opposition politician Adakhan Madumarov’s immunity so he can be prosecuted. 

At least 20 activists and political figures opposed to the deal have been detained in Kyrgyzstan.

Tashiev posed recently with the latest Bayraktar Akıncı attack drone, suggesting Kyrgyzstan had added the platform to its arsenal.

Kyrgyzstan’s President Sadyr Japarov is providing much of the same old authoritarianism in new populist clothes.

And so ends a prosecution that many human rights activists characterized as persecution.

It’s hard not to link the drug charges against Bolot Temirov and Bolot Nazarov to their activities irritating certain authority figures.

Kyrgyzstan looks likely to have a new parliament election sometime in December and a presidential poll in January. It may also have a constitutional referendum.

The leaders of three parties say they’re joining forces in the upcoming election.
