China’s Changing Approach to Africa

China has long prided itself on its friendly ties with African nations, a relationship that until recently focused largely on the economic. With China taking up a growing role in global affairs, however, its approach to Africa is changing. Dr. Deborah Brautigam, Director of the China Africa Research Initiative (CARI) at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies, gives an overview of China-Africa relations in a new era of Chinese diplomacy.
